Boost Traffic

The start of a new week. So after the excitment of the last week-and-a-half, things are finally starting to get back to normal around here. We have the code in our custom built digital “lock box”.

The interesting thing happening of late is that the script that powers entreview, Pligg, has just gone through a fork. A “fork” is when open source code splits into two directions. The reasons are many and varied, but suffice it to say it ultimately benefits the user, since now both forks will be battling to be best and keep your on as a “Client” The down side is that as the forked scripts distance themselves from each other, the coding will start to change significantly until they are no longer interchangable. At that time, clients will have to pick a side.

It looks like that is a few months away, as we can adjust our look and feel for both scripts at this time, asn we are benchmarking both at HQ to see which has the most advantages, etc.

What does this mean for you and me? Hopefully a more reliable and more flexible site, where we can add more functions and fun things to keep your eyeballs stuck to our site.

Speaking of which, do you have a suggestion for us? Let us know!

Google Cache

What a week it has been so far! Very frustrating, yes. But also very illuminating as to what we need to do to shore-up the site. Thanks to google page cache, we were able to grab bits and pieces we needed to reconstruct certain aspects that crashed the site during the code save.

Now, I wouldn’t say this has been catastrophic, but we have suffered a serious impact on views and also a decrease in people hitting the site. I don’t blame them one bit. No one wants to use a site that is broken, or that cannot keep up a certain status-quo.

I will say that most of this seems to be due to the cancellation of our contest this week. No contest, no traffic. That is pretty much how it works. Since we could not count the submissions accurately; since some postings were being refused, it seemed a better idea to skip a week and have a larger reward.  So next week we will look for our boost in traffic and hopefully get us back up to the numbers.

So, what is the trick now? To get our regulars back. The internet is a fickle place with new and interesting ways to spend your time cropping up everywhere! To be able to keep a pair of eyeballs coming back to your site day after day, much less week after week, requires a lot of sweat on the brow, be it virtual or otherwise.

Ok, time to get back to work on the forum!

Code

WE have corrected the coding error that caused the voting and views to stop. Weshould be restoring the views and votes tallies to their proper values.

Of course, while we repaired the voting, it appears that we overwrote the forum design… UGH…. LEarning as we go…on the job training. We will restore the forum design from our backups this week. Right now we are focused on on what happened with the voting script. Thanks for

Experiment with Advertisers

You may have noticed over the past two days, a lonely ad at the bottom of our site. We decided to look into advertisers and were not satisfied with the quality of the ads. Most were junk ads and quite frankly, we did not want to trash advertise our site while our “advertising profile was built” so we could get some decent stuff sent our way. I mean, if you can’t gauge what type of ad to put up after 2,500 page impressions, then it is time for us to think about another advertiser.

We all know Adsense is the 800 pound gorilla in the room, but damn, they do a great job of targeting. You can aim at spot on the wall from 100 miles with it. So, for now, we will stick with our 125 x125 advertising on the left hand column. It is quite the bargin at $5 for two weeks and $10 for one month, but we realize that our reach is not exatcly like google’s….yet!

Page Views

We just crunched the numbers (well ok, we looked at AWStats) and our first month we had 63,800 pageviews! Not a bad amount for the first month of operation. Of course now the challenge is to keep the numbers up! We foresee the potential to make August a great month. We also see some challenges ahead.

Some challenges we perceive:

  • When the Hoopla dies down. Kicking off a website always generates a bit of a buzz. We were surprised how much buzz, but the trick is to keep the excitement going!
  • Lazy days of summer. August is summertime, when people are at the beach and BBQ’s. So that is less eyeballs on the screen. August will be a good time to tighten up and focus on the Target market.

Some Buzz for us!

  • Hopefully this week, we will bring our integrated forum online. If you have registered with us, you can seamless go back and forth between the forum and link postings. The forum will be another great way to market your blog and meet with others!
  • We are putting 100% of our ad revenue back into Entreview. This means upgrading the site look and feel as well as upping our prize “Money” for our weekly giveaway.

So, stay-tuned we are targeting to grow in August, but who knows by how much! Matching 63,800 will be tough but we think we might be able to do it, or at least come close. Be assured we will be working extra hard behind the scenes to make Entreview a more pleasurable experience for you!

Boost Your Traffic

Ok, so the explosion in Blogs is nothing new. Neither is the Blogger’s desire to bring a multitude of hits to their sites. Dreams of Dollars, Pounds, Dracmas, and Euros dance through the heads of all bloggers. Why is that? because from the stay at home mom writing about life with Kids, to the SEO expert, we are all Entrepreneurs at heart.

Why Entrepreneurs? Because it is EASY to write about something you love. It is HARD sometimes to turn a buck from it. Entrepreneurs understand exactly that. It will take time and care to nurture your investment (your blog) until it can stand on its feet and be recognized (Alexa, Page Rank, etc.)

Another rules is that it takes money to make money. That is one of the aspects of Entrecard that appealed to me right off the bat. Bloggers from all over the world have a common currency with which to buy and sell ads. Much the way Linden Dollars are Valued on Second Life, Entrecard Credits have a value unto their own within universe of Bloggers signed up for the service.

Here at Entreview we use Entrecard Credits to pay for our contests. This frees up our real world $$$$ to advertise on sites to attract more visitors and members to submit links. In this way, we hope to achieve a sort of parity where our contest become self sufficient.

It will take some time. We are only 3 weeks old. But we had a great First month and we are looking for an even stronger August!

Thanks for your support!

Featured Posts Value Add

A few Viewers emailed me about the Featured Post and asked why it was such a good deal.

Let me explain:

For 100/EC per day (that’s right you need Entrecard. Great service, go get it!) your story will be exposed to up to 2,400 page views per day. (this is an average of the three weeks we have been running). In addition, along with all of our post, you can instantly see how many people have clicked the link to view and potentially have dropped on your blog.

For example:

In the above image you can see that this Featured Post had 80 people click on the link to view the actual post and therefore 80 potential EC Drops. It was also voted up 13 times within its 10 day run. Currently, the typical post gets around 7 votes and 5 or 6 page views within 10 days.

Since the Featured Posts targets individual Blog entries or contests, all the click-throughs will be targeted. Instead of 80 hits on your entire blog in different sections, you will get 80 views of a specific link. Because the Featured Post always is at the top of the Page for all link displaying pages, it ALWAYS gets looked at.

I hope that expalins it a little better.

If you are interested let us know.

Adsense revenue

The Holy Grail of Bloggers would seem to be making their first few dollars from Google via Adsense. Now I for one agree that it is great to actually get a check from the Goliath of the Internet, but many people become frustrated when they only see pennies come trickling into their account. Some Bloggers become disheartened and pack up shop and move on.

But for thos brave souls who have persevered and are making money with adsense, here is a post from Turnip of Power to help you along to your goal.

The folks over at Dectect Money also have some advice for Adsense:

Google lately made two very useful improvements on their Adwords money machine. The first one is the optional feature to be able to put keywords for certain placements (websites) on the content network.

Finally, Dot Com Mogul has some information on Google Adsense Backgrounds.

That’s all for now, More tomorrow!

Social Aggregation fun

One of the great things about having a social aggregation site is all the great links you get to pursue through on a daily basis. The sad thing is, we are so busy we barely get a chance to scour the links. So to remedy that we decided to look at a few posts a day and comment on how they can help you in your quest for more viewers, better Google PR or making more money.

A good example is the blog from 3 Blog Traffic Solutions helps a budding Blogger stay on the right track to increase their traffic and links.

Terry Dean’s Blog about the five keys to quickstart your blog is also a good read.

Do you have a tip or trick on your blog that others need to know about?

Then post it!
